The client

LH Plumbing & Heating is a family-run business based in Harrow, serving North London and the surrounding areas of Hertfordshire. Founded by John Sumner in 1963, it now spans three generations, and its yellow vans have been a familiar sight in the area for decades.

The team are Gas Safe registered, NICEIC Approved Contractors and members of the Institute of Plumbing, covering everything from bathroom renovations and boiler replacements to electrical work, carpentry and building.

The challenge

Before this project, LH had no website at all. For more than 60 years, its work had come through reputation and word of mouth, and the business needed a professional online presence that showed the same quality and trustworthiness customers get from the team in person.

It also had to make sense of a genuinely broad business. Plumbing, gas, electrical, carpentry and building work needed to read as one coherent company rather than a jumble of services, so a customer could quickly see that LH can handle their job.

The solution

I designed and built LH's first website around the business itself, working with its existing logo and leading with what it's known for locally: its 60-year history, its family and its yellow vans.

Services are organised into clear categories, each listing the actual jobs the team do, so a customer can quickly check that LH covers what they need. A gallery of completed work and real customer reviews show the quality of the work, and the phone number, email and enquiry form are never more than a tap away.

Everything on the site, from pages and services to gallery photos, reviews and opening hours, is managed in Sanity, so LH can keep it up to date themselves. The contact page even shows whether the team is open right now, worked out live from those opening hours.

The outcome

A first online presence

LH's first website, giving a business built on reputation and word of mouth a professional place to be found.

One coherent business

A broad range of trades presented as a single, easy-to-understand company.

A site that feels like them

Designed around the family business and its existing logo, rather than a generic trades template.

Theirs to run

The site has run since launch without any further development work, and LH can update all of its text and images themselves.

“Got Roy to create a website for my family owned company, could not be happier! He has done an amazing job and has been super helpful throughout the whole process. Would 100% recommend him!”
